High Performance Marine Propulsion Package
These items were used:
-
Sier-Bath 12.5 to 1 reduction gearbox (costs $300,000 new)
-
79.5 cm (31.3 inch) diameter Wadsworth Waterjet (costs $200,000 new)
Here are some photographs of boats that contain Wadsworth Waterjet
propulsion systems:
-
The Yellow Fly, an Italian motor yacht, uses basically
the same propulsion package that is for sale here.
-
The Order of Magnitude, a commercial fishing vessel,
It is 58 feet long, and attained a certified velocity of 58 MPH. Here is another
great photo.
The Order of Magnitude used the "CODOG" system. An illustration
shows how it is set up. It consists of a Wadsworth Waterjet coupled to
a TF35 Lycoming gas turbine and a Cummins KT19 diesel. Both engines run
through a common Sier-Bath gear box to power the 32 inch impeller. Top
speed of 10 knots is achieved using the Cummins 425 HP, while the turbine's
3500 HP propels the 30 ton vessel at over 48 knots in a light ship condition.
This combination provides fuel economy as well as speed.
Here is the gearbox.
Here is a very recent photograph of the waterjet.
